Years ago, one of the most verdant, biologically diverse forests on the planet grew on Leyte Island. Fascinating flora and fauna could have been found living from ground level to the tops of enormous dipterocarp (two winged seeds) trees.
We help people imagine a time before forests were converted to rice plantations and degradation of the land became so commonplace as to be accepted by all.
Planting trees and restoring forests brings back integrity to the land. Native species, the pride of the Filipino people. We want our children to experience the richness that can be found in a world where ecological restoration leads to the practice of preserving the beauty of the world around us.
LRP teaches this philosophy to the groups we encounter, be it elementary students or farmers organizations, that the value of resources goes beyond monetary. That people and nature can exist together, and that a passion for restoring what was lost can only lead to a brighter tomorrow.
